The UB obtains one million euros in funding for research groups in the call for proposals “Grants for public-private collaboration projects 2023”.

The University of Barcelona (UB), with the support of the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation, the UB’s transfer office, has obtained 977,069.94 euros of funding in the framework of the call for proposals ‘Grants for public-private collaboration projects’ of the Ministry of Science and Innovation. The funds will be used to finance nine R+D+i projects developed by UB researchers in collaboration with companies and other research bodies.

The duration of the projects is three years and the aim of this funding is to support experimental development projects in cooperation between companies and research bodies, in order to promote the development of new technologies, the business application of new ideas and techniques, contributing to the creation of new products and services.

The research staff at the University of Barcelona and the projects they lead that have been recognised are as follows:

Dr. Giuliana Magri from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences with the project ‘Development of FLDK-1, a potent and selective “first-in-class” drug for the treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease’. Led by Orikine BIO and with the collaboration of the CSIC and the CRG. The project reference is SCPP2300C010468XV0.

Dr. Rubén Alcázar from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences with the project ‘New strategies for the biocontrol of nematodes with rhizospheric microorganisms (RhizoNem)’ led by Lainco and with the collaboration of Leitat. The project reference is SCPP2300C010476XV0.

Dr. Maite Muniesa from the Faculty of Biology with the project ‘Development of phage-rich products for the ecological fight against phytopathogens causing “Fuego Bacteriano” and “Podrerumbre Negra” (FAGOPAT)’ led by Fertinagro Biotech SL and with the collaboration of Fertinagro Nutrigenia SL and the CSIC. The project reference is SCPP2300C010671XV0.

Dr Josep M. Chimenos and Dr Sergi Astals from the Faculty of Chemistry with the project ‘Use of magnesium by-products to facilitate the circular economy in urban wastewater treatment plants through the recovery of phosphorus in the form of struvite, biogas upgrading and fertiliser production (MagnEDAR)’, led by Navarra de Infraestructuras Locales SA and with the collaboration of Magnesitas Navarras SA; GYD Tecnología del agua SL; Asociación Centro Tecnológico CEIT and the University of Navarra. The project reference is SCPP2300C010703XV0.

Dr. Josep M. Chimenos of the Faculty of Chemistry with the project ‘Sustainable materials and metals from the use of bottom and fly ash from the energy recovery of municipal waste (SMMASH)’ led by the SOCIEDADE GALEGA DO MEDIO AMBIENTE, SA, and with the collaboration of NATUREA MEDIOAMBIENTE, S.L and the FUNDACION CENTRO TECNOLÓGICO DE INVESTIGACION MULTISECTORIAL. The project reference is SCPP2300C010606XV0.

Drs. Jordi Colomer Farrarons, Manel Puig and Pere Miribel from the Faculty of Physics with the project ‘Development of non-invasive disruptive technology for measuring stress and emotional state in people with communication difficulties (EmotionalSigns)’, led by 3DThinks and in collaboration with the UPC. The project reference is SCPP2300C010707XV0.
