The University of Barcelona and the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation, leaders in scientific entrepreneurship in the health sector in Catalonia and Spain
A report prepared by the Botín Foundation and Inveniam Group highlights the key role of the University of Barcelona (UB) and its knowledge transfer office, the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG), in promoting scientific entrepreneurship in the health sector in Catalonia and Spain.
The study, titled Evolution and Trends of Scientific Entrepreneurship in the Health Sector in Spain, analyzes companies emerging from the public research system between 2001 and 2023, highlighting the contribution of the UB and the FBG to this ecosystem.
According to the report, the University of Barcelona ranks second in Spain in terms of the number of spin-offs created in the health sector, with a total of 19 spin-off companies between 2001 and 2023. The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) leads the way with 21 spin-offs.
The document also highlights initiatives such as the Proof of Concept of the Fund for the Promotion of Innovation (F2I) of the University of Barcelona and the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation, which offers grants of up to €25,000 to validate and promote UB technologies and bring them closer to market requirements. This grant is supported by Banco Santander.
The FBG, as the UB’s knowledge transfer office, has been instrumental in achieving these results, facilitating connections between researchers, companies, and investors, and promoting the creation of new innovative companies.
This recognition reaffirms the commitment of the UB and the FBG to knowledge transfer and innovation, consolidating their position as leaders in scientific entrepreneurship in health in Catalonia and Spain.
