A natural biostimulant reduces losses and improves the sustainability of citrus crops

The physiological fruit drop in citrus crops is one of the main causes of loss in agricultural production. In order to mitigate this issue, a team of researchers from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Barcelona (UB), in collaboration with the companies Lainco, S.A. and Biovert, S.L., has developed Laiguant Prime, an innovative natural biostimulant that reduces fruit loss and improves crop sustainability.

The project, led by Dr. Sergi Munné Bosch, professor at the Faculty of Biology of the UB, has combined academic research and business development to provide an effective solution for the agricultural sector. The study was structured in three phases: the analysis of physiological fruit drop, to understand the causes of the issue; the formulation of the product, based on the research results; and field validation, which confirmed its effectiveness under real growing conditions.

The results have been very positive. The application of Laiguant Prime reduces fruit loss by approximately 25%, improving crop efficiency and reducing environmental impact. This biostimulant optimizes the use of resources such as water and fertilizers, making production more sustainable and profitable for growers.

A positive economic and environmental impact

The implementation of Laiguant Prime not only benefits farmers but also has a positive impact on the environment. Reducing fruit loss means less waste and more efficient use of natural resources. In addition, the project strengthens the competitiveness of agri-food companies and promotes the creation of stable employment in the sector.
