The initiatives cover diverse areas such as health, food, sustainability, new materials, and digital technologies, showing the university\u2019s commitment to promoting advances that improve people\u2019s quality of life.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"1290\">Through these projects, the UB works to bring knowledge to society, with proposals ranging from new disease treatments to strategies for improving food or decontaminating water and air. This applied research demonstrates how knowledge can be transformed into real impact and clearly illustrates the university\u2019s leadership in knowledge transfer and its commitment to economic and social progress.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1292\" data-end=\"1496\">The call, promoted by the Catalan Agency for Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR), aims to drive knowledge generated in the scientific environment so that it reaches the productive sector.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1503\" data-end=\"1570\"><strong data-start=\"1507\" data-end=\"1570\">Innovative projects to integrate into the productive sector<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1572\" data-end=\"1742\">The 2025 Knowledge Industry Grants program is divided into three categories according to the maturity of the projects and innovative ideas: Seed, Product, and Innovators.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1744\" data-end=\"2002\">Among these fifteen projects, two will be developed in collaboration with other institutions within Catalonia\u2019s research and innovation system, highlighting the University of Barcelona\u2019s capacity to establish synergies and promote high-impact joint projects.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2004\" data-end=\"2261\">Of the fifteen projects selected in this call, four belong to the Seed category, each funded with \u20ac20,000; seven belong to the Product category, each receiving approximately \u20ac150,000; and four belong to the Innovators category, each with \u20ac84,000 in funding.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2263\" data-end=\"2448\">The <strong data-start=\"2267\" data-end=\"2275\">Seed<\/strong> category aims to finance innovation projects in the early stages of technological maturity. The four UB projects selected in this category total \u20ac80,000 and are as follows:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2450\" data-end=\"2476\"><strong data-start=\"2450\" data-end=\"2474\">Faculty of Chemistry<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2477\" data-end=\"2850\">\n<li data-start=\"2477\" data-end=\"2679\">\n<p data-start=\"2479\" data-end=\"2679\">Dr. Irene Garcia Cano, Department of Materials Science and Physical Chemistry, with the project <em data-start=\"2575\" data-end=\"2677\">FotoDescon. Photocatalytic decontaminating panels for urban environments based on recycled material.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2680\" data-end=\"2850\">\n<p data-start=\"2682\" data-end=\"2850\">Dr. Ignacio Sir\u00e9s Sadornil, from the same department, with the project <em data-start=\"2753\" data-end=\"2850\">CYANH3. Selective capture of nitrates in contaminated waters and green valorization as ammonia.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2852\" data-end=\"2895\"><strong data-start=\"2852\" data-end=\"2893\">Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2896\" data-end=\"3372\">\n<li data-start=\"2896\" data-end=\"3142\">\n<p data-start=\"2898\" data-end=\"3142\">Dr. Raimon Sabat\u00e9 Lagunas, Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology and Physical Chemistry, with the project <em data-start=\"3019\" data-end=\"3140\">AmyloVi. Amyloid-Based Viral Entry Inhibitors: A Targeted Strategy Against SARS-CoV-2 and Emerging Respiratory Viruses.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3143\" data-end=\"3372\">\n<p data-start=\"3145\" data-end=\"3372\">Dr. M. Carmen Vidal Carou, Department of Nutrition, Food Sciences and Gastronomy, with the project <em data-start=\"3244\" data-end=\"3372\">LegSprout-Tech. Technological Valorization of Legume Sprouts to Improve the Safety and Quality of Plant-Based Fermented Foods.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3374\" data-end=\"3641\">The seven UB projects included in the <strong data-start=\"3412\" data-end=\"3423\">Product<\/strong> category total \u20ac879,110 and will finance projects aimed at developing prototypes to reduce uncertainties regarding the technical and commercial viability of the technology under development. The selected projects are:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3643\" data-end=\"3686\"><strong data-start=\"3643\" data-end=\"3684\">Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3687\" data-end=\"4050\">\n<li data-start=\"3687\" data-end=\"3899\">\n<p data-start=\"3689\" data-end=\"3899\">Dr. Christian Gri\u00f1\u00e1n, Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutic Chemistry, with the project <em data-start=\"3794\" data-end=\"3897\">EpiAD. Pioneering a first-in-class epigenetic therapy through RNA modulation for Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3900\" data-end=\"4050\">\n<p data-start=\"3902\" data-end=\"4050\">Dr. Santiago V\u00e1zquez Cruz, same department, with the project <em data-start=\"3963\" data-end=\"4050\">DS1RsEH. Development of a first-in-class dual-acting analgesic for severe acute pain.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4052\" data-end=\"4076\"><strong data-start=\"4052\" data-end=\"4074\">Faculty of Biology<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4077\" data-end=\"4947\">\n<li data-start=\"4077\" data-end=\"4271\">\n<p data-start=\"4079\" data-end=\"4271\">Dr. Jordi Garcia Fern\u00e1ndez, Department of Genetics, Microbiology and Statistics, with the project <em data-start=\"4177\" data-end=\"4269\">EpiAD. Preclinical development of a first-in-class treatment for autism spectrum disorder.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4272\" data-end=\"4504\">\n<p data-start=\"4274\" data-end=\"4504\">Dr. Sergi Munn\u00e9 Bosch, Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences, with the project <em data-start=\"4386\" data-end=\"4502\">CAFPROM. Validation of CAFPROM, a circular economy-based biostimulant for improving yield and quality of tomatoes.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4505\" data-end=\"4686\">\n<p data-start=\"4507\" data-end=\"4686\">Dr. Antonio Zorzano Olarte, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedicine, with the project <em data-start=\"4606\" data-end=\"4684\">VariantX_Prototyp. Prototyping a new gene therapy for the treatment of AATD.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4687\" data-end=\"4947\">\n<p data-start=\"4689\" data-end=\"4947\">Dr. Miquel Martin Perez, Department of Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology, with the project <em data-start=\"4786\" data-end=\"4857\">PalmitoLeads. New Palmitoylation Inhibitors to Hit Metastatic Cancer.<\/em> This project is coordinated by the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4949\" data-end=\"4973\"><strong data-start=\"4949\" data-end=\"4971\">Faculty of Physics<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4974\" data-end=\"5230\">\n<li data-start=\"4974\" data-end=\"5230\">\n<p data-start=\"4976\" data-end=\"5230\">Dr. Mario Montes Usategui, Department of Applied Physics, with the project <em data-start=\"5051\" data-end=\"5166\">XL-SIM. Redefining Limits in Biological Imaging: Structured Illumination Microscopy at Extra-Large Field of View.<\/em> Project in collaboration with the Computer Vision Center (CVC).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"5232\" data-end=\"5506\">Finally, the four UB projects selected in the <strong data-start=\"5278\" data-end=\"5292\">Innovators<\/strong> category total \u20ac336,000 and will fund knowledge valorization and transfer projects developed by innovators during stays at institutions within Catalonia\u2019s research and innovation system. The selected projects are:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5508\" data-end=\"5535\"><strong data-start=\"5508\" data-end=\"5533\">Faculty of Psychology<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"5536\" data-end=\"5722\">\n<li data-start=\"5536\" data-end=\"5722\">\n<p data-start=\"5538\" data-end=\"5722\">Dr. Carles Escera Mic\u00f3, Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology, with the project <em data-start=\"5632\" data-end=\"5722\">OnaKids. A neonatal EEG biomarker for predicting the risk of language acquisition delay.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"5724\" data-end=\"5773\"><strong data-start=\"5724\" data-end=\"5771\">Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"5774\" data-end=\"5971\">\n<li data-start=\"5774\" data-end=\"5971\">\n<p data-start=\"5776\" data-end=\"5971\">Dr. Sergio Escalera, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, with the project <em data-start=\"5862\" data-end=\"5971\">VirtualDraping.
