The 2024 Knowledge Industry Grants programme is divided into three categories according to the maturity of the projects and innovative ideas: Seed, Product, and Innovators.<\/p>\n
Of the thirteen projects selected in this call, four fall under the Seed category, each funded with \u20ac20,000; six belong to the Product category, each funded with approximately \u20ac150,000; and three fall under the Innovators category, each funded with more than \u20ac80,000.<\/p>\n
The Seed category is aimed at funding innovation projects in the early stages of technological maturity. The four UB projects selected in this category total \u20ac80,000 and are as follows:<\/p>\n
Faculty of Biology<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. Sergi Munn\u00e9 Bosch from the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences, with the project \u201cBiofortification of chia sprouts: sustainable strategies for high nutritional value production.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. Santiago V\u00e1zquez Cruz from the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutic Chemistry, with the project \u201cPoC-TD-CoV. Proof of concept of the targeted degradation of the main protease (wild-type and mutant subtypes) as treatment for drug-resistant coronavirus infection.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. Ignasi Jorba Masd\u00e9u from the Unit of Biophysics and Bioengineering, with the project \u201cHEARTBOX: Development of a 3D printed Heart Preservation System to Increase Viability in Transplantation.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Dr. Jorge Otero D\u00edaz, with the project \u201cPulmOrgGel. Lung Extracellular Matrix Hydrogels: Innovating Pulmonary Organoid Research.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The six UB projects included in the Product category total \u20ac877,100 and are intended to fund the development of prototypes to reduce uncertainties about the technical and commercial feasibility of the developing technologies. The selected projects are:<\/p>\n Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. M. Carmen Escolano from the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutic Chemistry, with the project \u201cProgression of an innovative antiglioblastoma drug.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Faculty of Philology and Communication<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. Mireia Farr\u00fas Cabeceran from the Department of Catalan Philology and General Linguistics, with the project \u201cSCRIBAL. Audio transcription pilot in a university teaching environment.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Faculty of Physics<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. Oriol Arteaga Barriel from the Department of Applied Physics, with the project \u201cPOLVISION. A system for complete polarization vision.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. Sergi Escalera Guerrero from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, with the project \u201cVirtualDraping. A Virtual Clothing Try-On System based on 3D Body and Garment Reconstruction and Animation.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. Concepci\u00f3 Soler Prat from the Department of Pathology and Experimental Therapeutics, with the project \u201cTREX2I. Charting New Paths: First-in-class TREX2 inhibitors for psoriasis and dermatitis.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Faculty of Chemistry<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. Vicente March\u00e1n Sancho from the Department of Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, with the project \u201cHYPOPDT. Next generation of photosensitizers for the PDT treatment of highly aggressive hypoxic tumors.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Regarding the Innovators category, the three UB projects total \u20ac252,000 and are intended to fund knowledge valorisation and transfer projects developed by innovators during placements at institutions within the Catalan research and innovation system.<\/p>\n The selected projects are:<\/p>\n Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. Christian Gri\u00f1\u00e1n Ferr\u00e9 from the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutic Chemistry, with the project \u201cFLAVG9a. FLAVIUS THERAPEUTICS: Pioneering epigenetic precision medicine to fight CNS conditions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. Sandra Acosta Verdugo from the Department of Pathology and Experimental Therapeutics, with the project \u201cOrganAID.
