University of Barcelona spin-offs surpass €13.5 million in turnover in 2025
The University of Barcelona (UB) spin-offs—companies created to commercialise research carried out at the University—continue to strengthen their economic and social impact. This is reflected in the 2025 Annual Report of the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG), the University’s Knowledge Transfer Office.
During the past year, UB’s 27 spin-offs achieved a combined turnover of €13.54 million and created 261 highly skilled jobs, improving on their 2024 performance, when the University’s spin-offs generated €10.2 million in turnover and 227 jobs. This growth demonstrates the University’s ability to transform research excellence into innovation, economic activity and tangible benefits for society.
This positive trend is reinforced by the companies’ ability to attract the resources needed for their development and consolidation. Collectively, the 27 UB-backed companies secured €30.94 million in funding, highlighting their capacity to attract investment and competitive funding to develop innovative technologies and bring them to market.
In this context, the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation promotes the creation and growth of innovative companies based on research results. During 2025, it evaluated 14 new business initiatives and supported the creation of six new companies in strategic areas including healthcare, artificial intelligence, microelectronics and advanced mobility.

These companies enable the knowledge generated at the University of Barcelona to reach society through new technologies, treatments, services and innovative solutions. The 2025 results demonstrate the University’s ability to transform talent and world-class research into economic activity and social value,” said Mercè Segarra, Vice-Rector for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer at the University of Barcelona.
The business ecosystem linked to the University of Barcelona includes initiatives in fields as diverse as life sciences, digital health, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies and sustainability. These companies contribute to creating high-quality jobs, attracting investment and addressing major societal challenges.

These results demonstrate how university research is transformed into companies capable of creating highly skilled employment, attracting investment and delivering innovative solutions to major social and economic challenges.
More than fifty spin-offs created
Since 2001, FBG has helped create more than fifty start-ups.
