University of Barcelona spin-off Electraqua selected to join the Cajamar Innova Agua programme
The University of Barcelona spin-off Electraqua has been selected to participate in the sixth edition of Cajamar Innova Agua, the acceleration programme run by Fundación Grupo Cajamar that supports startups developing innovative technologies to address the key challenges of the water cycle. In this edition, 22 companies were selected from 197 applications submitted in the fields of water, agri-tech and food technology.
Electraqua has developed an electrochemical reactor capable of generating the oxidising agents required to remove micropollutants from water—particularly pharmaceutical residues—using only air and electricity, without the need for external chemical reagents. This technology offers a more sustainable and efficient alternative for water treatment, addressing one of today’s most pressing environmental challenges.
Participation in the Cajamar Innova programme will give the spin-off access to a specialised acceleration programme, including mentoring and technology validation in real-world environments, while also providing opportunities to connect with experts and key stakeholders in the agri-food and water management innovation ecosystem.
Cajamar Innova is an initiative of Fundación Grupo Cajamar that supports emerging companies developing high-impact technological solutions for the water, agri-tech and food technology sectors. Since its launch, the programme has become one of Spain’s leading accelerators for startups specialising in these fields.
Electraqua’s selection highlights the potential of University of Barcelona spin-offs to transform research results into impactful innovations. Through the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation, the University promotes the creation and growth of technology-based companies that help address major societal and environmental challenges, including sustainability and improving the quality of water resources.
