Two UB spin-offs recognized with scientific and technological innovation awards
Two spin-offs from the University of Barcelona (UB) have recently been recognized for their innovative activity in the fields of science and technology.
On the one hand, Virmedex Virutal Experience, a spin-off of the UB and the UPC, has been awarded the 2025 City of Barcelona Award in the category of Applied Sciences and Technology, an honor that highlights applied research and knowledge transfer with social impact. This spin-off is dedicated to transforming the training of healthcare professionals through immersive video games and gamified virtual simulators.
On the other hand, OrganAID Holdings, a spin-off of the UB and the UPF, has been one of the winning companies in the 9th edition of the ChemoStart Awards, an initiative that promotes emerging projects in the biomedical and pharmaceutical fields. The biotech company develops a drug testing platform in organoids using artificial intelligence (AI).
These recognitions strengthen the role of the University of Barcelona’s spin-offs as drivers of innovation and technology transfer in the service of society.
