The University of Barcelona obtains €1.7 million in funding to develop public-private collaboration projects

The University of Barcelona (UB), with the support of the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation, UB’s knowledge transfer office, has secured €1,697,969.00 in funding under the “Public-Private Collaboration Projects 2024” call from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. The funds will be used to finance eight R&D&I projects carried out by UB researchers in collaboration with companies and other research institutions.

The projects will run for three years, and the aim of this funding is to support experimental development projects conducted jointly by companies and research organizations, in order to promote the development of new technologies, the business application of new ideas and techniques, and contribute to the creation of new products and services.

Below are the members of the research staff of the University of Barcelona and the projects they lead that have been recognized in this call:

  • Dr. Eva Pardina Arrese, Faculty of Biology, with the project “Study and development of a new strategy to modulate vaginal microbiota using the OXO-001 compound”, led by OXOLIFE SL, in collaboration with the University of Barcelona and the Research Institute of Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau.   • Dr. Sandra Pérez Torras, Faculty of Biology, with the project “Discovery and early development of new DHODH enzyme inhibitors with organ-restricted activity for cancer treatment (DHODH-INHIB)”, led by Medchemfarma, in collaboration with the University of Barcelona and the University of Santiago de Compostela.   • Dr. Pilar Pérez Lozano, Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences, with the project “Final preclinical studies for the development of new molecules to treat fibrotic diseases (DEFIBER IV)”, led by GAT Therapeutics SL, in collaboration with the University of Barcelona, Fundación Hospital General Universitario, and Vall d’Hebron Research Institute.   • Dr. Marc Suñé Pou, Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences, with the project “Development of a diagnostic test for multispecies infections (SeptiVet)”, led by Loop Diagnostics, in collaboration with the University of Barcelona. Reference: CPP2024-011387.

  • Dr. Alberto Fernández de las Nieves, Faculty of Physics, with the project “Holistic approach to managing emerging organisms through the synergy of biocontrol agents, biopesticides and semiochemicals (HARMONY)”, led by Agrobio, in collaboration with the University of Barcelona, Futureco Bioscience, SEDQ, Institut de Química Avançada de Catalunya (IQAC – CSIC), University of Almería and University of Cartagena.   • Dr. Ángel Diéguez Barrientos, Faculty of Physics, with the project “Development of an integrated RISC-V-based platform for secure monitoring of critical infrastructures”, led by Worldsensing SL, in collaboration with the University of Barcelona. Reference: CPP2024-011612.

  • Dr. Gustavo Egea Guri, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, with the project “Research and development of a new therapy for the treatment of Marfan Syndrome (Marfan-PPARg)”, led by Medibiofarma, in collaboration with the University of Barcelona and the University of Santiago de Compostela.   • Dr. Alfons Navarro Ponz, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, with the project “Advancing assisted reproduction: discovering the future of fertility through the development of a new non-invasive preimplantation genomic test to increase live birth rates by analyzing genomic DNA from exosomes in embryo culture medium”, led by Yikon Genomics SL, in collaboration with the University of Barcelona and Instituto Bernabéu SL.
