QuantumCAT: Accelerating the application of quantum technologies
Quantum technologies, based on unique properties of quantum physics, offer unprecedented capabilities for modern applications of the society of information. Societies are getting ready for the irruption of new and disruptive technologies that will be a change of paradigm, specifically in the safety and privacy of communications via the Internet. In order to promote projects on technological transfer and innovation with new quantum technologies that can have an industrial and social impact in a short and mid-term, a hub of quantum technologies, called QuantumCAT, has been created in Catalonia.
The UB takes part in the simulation and quantum computing parts through the researchers of the Faculty of Physics and the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the UB Montserrat Guilleumas, Bruno Julià, Sofyan Iblisdir, Maria Moreno Cardoner, José Ignacio Latorre, Ricardo Mayol and Luca Tagliacozzo.
This initiative is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), designated to the Catalonia 2014-2020 FEDER Program, with the support of the Secretary for Universities and Research of the Department of Business and Knowledge of the Catalan Government for emerging technology clusters dedicated to the valorisation and transfer of research results (QuantumCAT 001-P-001644).
